Video gaming addiction is much like any other type of addictive behavior. Some people have different views on video gaming addictions, but the important thing to realize is that it can be damaging to one’s life. One of the most addictive things about video games is the fact that there is some sort of a reward for the gamer every time he finishes a level.

If we have to compare video gaming addictions to other addictions, we can say that it is most similar to gambling. Gambling addicts don’t let up until they win something, just like a gamer won’t let go of a game until he reaches the end. The need to achieve something is similar in both gambling and gaming addicts. Once a person gets a taste of a reward he wants, he will keep wanting to get that reward no matter what he has to sacrifice.

What are the symptoms? It’s simple, if a person cannot stay away from a game, he may be a gaming addict. When a person disregards real life and cares more about his game than anything else, he is an addict. It’s true that gamers hole themselves up for days just to finish a game. Lack of sleep may also be a recurring problem for gamers. Time can really fly by as the gamer is concentrating on finishing his games one by one. Most of the time, gamers are not aware that they have to cultivate relationships outside their games in order to live their life. A gamer would often forget what time it is, or what he needs to do that day.

Unlike drug addiction, there is no rehabilitation center for video game addicts. One way to beat this is to go on vacation, preferably in a place with not many electronics. The long break may change his perspective. Once a video gaming addict moves far away from his games, he may or may not realize that there is a better world out there.
