My first recording experience provided me with all the basic knowledge that I need.

The other scenario that drew on my know-how was when I became the audio engineer and wrote the music score for two short movies my son wrote and directed. By my own criteria I believed I was not competent, but with the knowledge I gained from my previous experience I was able to manipulate the sound elements in order to create ear friendly music and sound effects. In addition to that, I found a way how to remove those unwanted noise in the background from the film and this is very much helpful whenever the background noise affects the movie quality.

These projects made me realize that my initial recording played a huge role. I also realized from that encounter just how much we actually learn things by simply doing them.

Halloween is rarely noticed here in the Philippines, because people are more focused on All Saints day. But lately, especially in the urban areas of the country, some people celebrate Halloween. When I was a kid, we did not experience Trick-or-Treating, for at that time we did not know what it is. In my elementary days, however, we would plan a Halloween party, although usually on November, instead of the last day October. Instead of wearing uniforms, we would go to school wearing costumes. After our classes, which would be dismissed early because we would only take our quizzes and have no lectures, we would have our party. Nowadays, I see children, sometimes wearing costumes, go door-to-door asking for treats. But you can see that their costumes are just improvised. For example, a boy will wear a “barong” and put lots of powder in his face making him a zombie or a little girl wearing a gown which will make her pass as a princess. Although I do not see character costumes like Pirates of the Caribbean Costumes, at least the spirit is there. But still, like in the other countries, it’s a lot of fun to watch!

Although a lot of fun, there lies a deeper meaning on the celebration of Halloween. Halloween actually teaches us death and mortality. Once our lives are lost, it is gone forever. Because of that we should value our lives. And lastly, enjoy your lives to the fullest.
